Dr. Terry Scott understands that nasal blockage and headaches are the most common reasons that patients come to see him. The causes of these headaches are for various reasons as are the ways in which they present. In most cases patients have already tried the common over the counter medications for their headaches prior to setting an appointment to see him. These medications include aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen. Also many patients will have taken decongestants, such a Sudafed when dealing with their sinus related headaches.

Once these patients realize that traditional over the counter drugs are not addressing their chronic headaches they seek Dr. Scott’s medical attention.

When a patient suffers from sinus headaches the results are from obstruction of the paranasal sinuses due to infection or allergic rhinitis. Usually this pain is located in the mid facial area, cheeks, forehead or between the eyes.Most patients describe this headache as a dull ache and are often compounded with nasal congestion or postnasal drainage. Allergic sinus pressure headaches can be treated with decongestants and antihistamines. However, in more difficult cases nasal steroid sprays may be needed. If these sinus headaches continue Dr. Scott will order a CT scan of the sinuses and at that point it might be necessary to perform laser/endoscopic sinus procedure to clear the chronic inflammation.
